King of the Cage Announces Results for the World Amateur Champions 2 at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. (April 21, 2015) King of the Cage, one of the world’s premier organizations for Mixed Martial Arts, set another milestone this past Saturday night, at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California. The world’s top amateur fighters competed in the “World Amateur Championships 2” for the opportunity to be one of the five that would share the $250,000 professional contracts that were awarded for this one night of fighting with a capacity crowd on-hand, that was broadcast live exclusively on MAVTV, owned by Lucas Oil.

Top honors of the night went to Andrew Kauppila of Wyoming, who was awarded the $100,000 professional contract; Johnny Munoz Jr. of California and Nicole Upshaw of Arizona were each awarded a $50,000 professional contract; Sergio Sosa of Texas and Jorge Serrano of Iowa were each awarded a $25,000 professional contract.

“This was another major historic event for the sport of MMA and another for our organization, stated Terry Trebilcock, Founder & President of King of the Cage. All of our partners, Lucas Oil, MAVTV, General Tire and Citizens Business Bank Arena, came together to support this event that would change the life of these five MMA fighters”. These fighters will now be given the opportunity to become the next stars of MMA and have their first fifteen fights have guaranteed national television exposure.   • Competing for five (5) Professional contracts totaling $250,000.
  • Five (5) competitors will be voted into a contractual opportunity which will give them contracts (1st Place $100,000) (2nd & 3rd Place $50, 000) and (4th & 5th Place totaling $25,000) to pursue their dream as the next big star in the MMA world.

Determining the opportunities will be based equally on these criteria:

  • Skill level
  • Personality
  • Athleticism
  • Level of excitement at which they fight
  • Marketability

Winners for the event will be determined based on formula which combines:

With less than two (2) weeks remaining, there are less than 600 tickets remaining for the World Amateur Championships presented by King of the Cage, at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California on Saturday, April 18, 2015. This event, held for just the second time, will have amateur fighters from around the globe competing for the chance at earning professional fighting contracts worth $250,000.

A crowd of over 9,000 is expected for this live national television broadcast, when forty (40) of the most elite MMA amateur athletes from around the world will compete for the chance to win over a worldwide crowd to win a professional contract with KOTC.

Below is information on some of the fighters that will be appearing on April 18th:

  • Gerald Harvey (3-2), Apple Valley, California (Team Allegiance) – Hard hitting 145 lb. fighter, who recorded one of the fastest KO in King of the Cage history at 6 seconds of the first round.
  • Johnny “Kid Kvenbo” Munoz Jr. (2-0), Norco, California (CQuence Jiu-Jitsu Norco) – Black belt in jiu jitsu and has received about many accolades in Southern California. Certainly will be an up and coming force to be reckoned with in the professional ranks. Munoz is the 8th ranked of active Nevada Amateur Flyweights.
  • Joey “El Cazador” Ruquet (10-0), Las Vegas, Nevada (Torres MMA Sport) – King of the Cage current 145 lb amateur champion with an unblemished record. Ruquet is a well rounded fighter that likes to finish and expects to make the same type of waves in the pro ranks. He is the 4th ranked of active Nevada Amateur Featherweights & 5th in Bantamweight Division
  • Andrew “High Hips” Kauppila (13-4), Rawlins, Wyoming (Raw Town MMA) – Well rounded kick boxing wrestler with a solid amateur career record.Hard hitting all around fighter who is not afraid to go the distance to win.
  • Cesar “Cubby” Gonzalez (6-3), Vallejo, California (Nobody MMA) – Hard hitting all around fighter who is not afraid to go the distance to win.
  • Collin Huckbody (4-1), Walker, Minnesota (The Performance Compound) – Scrappy wrestling based fighter, who looks to bring that style to the World Amateur Championships and make a statement.
  • Derek Harris (5-3), Eugene, Oregon (Midtown MMA) – Stand up fighter with KO power is not afraid to stand in the middle of the cage and throw down heavy blows. Harris is the 3rd ranked of 47 active Pac Northwest Amateur Light Heavyweights.
  • Jon Marc Cortez (4-4), Renton, Washington (Velocity Taekwondo) – 125 lb dynamo is not afraid to stand and bang or go for the submissions.
  • Jorge “The Dynamite” Serrano (17-11), Sioux City, Iowa (Renegade Combat Sports) – Striker base with good wrestling skills, along with his signature wins by choking out his opponents. Serrano is the 4th ranked of active Iowa Amateur Featherweights and 4th in the Bantamweight Division.
  • Maria Corona (1-1), Grants Pass, Oregon (Team Ronin) – She is not afraid to go to war. Win, lose or draw Corona will be there at the end of the fight.
  • Mike Vasquez, Bettendorf, Iowa – Has great stand up skills with strong wrestling base. Vasquez likes to finish his fights with ground and pound and has good cage control.
  • JJ Torres (6-3), Las Vegas, Nevada (Torres MMA Sport) – Hard hitting stand up fighter that’s likes to finish. Trains under legendary kick boxer Juan Torres. JJ likes to finish with a big bang and is not afraid to get into a real war.
  • Roy Saucedo (7-0), Clovis, New Mexico (Force of One) – Excellent cage control and likes to control his opponent with great KO finishes and putting his perfect record on the line.
  • Sergio Marroquin Sosa (1-1), Texas (Iron Dragon MMA) – Heavyweight that looks to bring the thunder. He is heavy handed and looks to finish quickly and is not afraid to put it all on the line.
  • Kalyn Schwartz (4-0), Medford, Oregon (Rogue Combat Academy) – Female fighter who is a very tough strike and putting her perfect record on the line.
  • Scott Hao, (5-0), Kailua Kona, Hawaii (Average Joes MMA) – Another skilled fighter that will be putting his perfect record on the line.
  • Nicole Upshaw, Chandler, Arizona (Arizona Dragon MMA) – Upshaw, who has had 6 amateur fights, will be doing battle against Maria Corona at 135 pounds. She is a very tough fighter on stand up and has excellent submission defense.

King of the Cage and MAVTV Announce the Second World Amateur Championships to Be Held at Citizens Business Bank Arena on April 18, 2015

(December 10, 2014) King of the Cage, one of the world’s premier organizations for Mixed Martial Arts, and MAVTV, owned by Lucas Oil, are proud to announce the second World Amateur Championships will be held at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California on Saturday, April 18, 2015. This event, held for just the second time, will have amateur fighters from around the globe competing for the chance at earning professional fighting contracts worth $250,000.

The first World Amateur Championships took place in October 2013 at The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada, inside the Pearl Theater and was broadcast live on MAVTV, which is available in over 50 million homes.

Over 1,000 fighters applied to compete in this event. But only forty (40) of the most elite MMA amateur athletes from around the world received the chance to win over a worldwide crowd, with their skills, heart and personality competing to win a professional contract with KOTC. They competed for Five (5) Professional Contracts totaling $250,000. This event was designed to find and develop not only the highest level of fighters but also the most unique.

The event attracted the largest Television audience on MAVTV in 2013. Final results were determined by Interactive Live Voting, both from Live Audience at The Palms and Live MAVTV Television Audience with over 80,000 people casting votes to determine the winners.
